• Enhanced DBS Checks: To verify an individual's criminal record history, including spent and unspent convictions, cautions, warnings, and reprimands. 

Why it's needed: Schools are considered "specified settings" and teachers engage in "regulated activity with children" on a regular basis, making an Enhanced DBS check necessary. 

• Barred List Check:This check specifically determines if the applicant is on the Children's Barred List, which means they are prohibited from working with children. 
• Renewal: Fundai renew staff DBS checks every 3 years
• Prohibition Check: Also called a Prohibition from Teaching Check, this determines if someone is suitable to work in a school, as required by the Keeping Children Safe in Education legislation. 
• Section 128 Check: This check determines if a person is banned from being involved in the management and governance of schools. 
• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) Check: For Early Career Teachers (ECTs), a check must be done to verify their QTS before they take up a post for statutory induction. 
• Identity Check: The identity of the person applying for a position must be confirmed before accessing other services. 
• Right to Work Check: Ensure that the teacher has the right to work in the UK. 
• References: Schools should verify an applicant's mental and physical fitness for the role and seek references where they are missing from records.
